PROFHILO® – What’s all the hype about?

Want an injectable treatment that’s less invasive than Dermal Fillers and more effective than Medical Grade Skincare? Meet PROFHILO®. Dubbed Injectable Skincare by Glamour Magazine (2021) PROFHILO® has rapidly taken the aesthetics world by storm. Even if you’ve heard about it, you might not be clear on what it does exactly. How is it different from Botox or Fillers? What does treatment involve and who’s suitable? Let me divulge all I know about this injectable potion.

So, what is PROFHILO®?

An injectable skin remodelling treatment containing one of the highest concentrations of Hyaluronic Acid (HA) on the market, especially formulated for people whose skin lacks volume and elasticity. The treatment helps to retain moisture levels in the skin while boosting the production of collagen and elastin, essential skin proteins, to refresh the skin from the inside-out.

To list but a few of the multiple benefits for the skin, PROFHILO®;

  • Significantly reduces skin laxity
  • Makes skin remarkably more firm
  • Restores volume to sagging and sunken areas
  • Tightens skin for a more taut, youthful appearance
  • Stimulates production of four types of collagen and elastin
  • Constantly infuses skin with boosted hydration for a fresher look and feel
  • Gives radiance to the skin, producing a glowing appearance

This revolutionary treatment is especially effective at treating those areas prone to laxity and sagging like the cheeks, neck, chest and décolletage. Rather than just plumping and filling wrinkles, the slow release of Hyaluronic Acid by PROFHILO® stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, in turn improving skin tone, hydration and the appearance of fine lines.

Hyaluronic Acid is hydrophilic, meaning it draws and holds water from your body, so PROFHILO® acts as a hydrator rather than a filler. This makes it incredibly effective for those with tired, dull-looking skin, transforming it into firm and luminous skin.

But, I’m not sure Botox and Dermal Fillers are for me?

Then PROFHILO® treatment could be the ideal skin injectable option for you. Perfect for those people not seeking a change in their appearance, but a boost in the appearance of their skin. Many people favour it because of the subtle yet transformative glow-inducing powers it holds. Beauty Editor of Cosmopolitan, Cassie Powney tried PROFHILO® treatment herself and here’s what she thought;

"The effects of PROFHILO® feel more subtle compared to Botox or even fillers, as the treatment is designed to give the complexion an overall boost rather than to "remodel" the face. In my opinion, it's ideal for those with the budget to give anti-ageing injectables a go, but who don't quite feel ready for Botox or fillers."

PROFHILO® v Dermal Filler: What’s the difference?

Yes, dermal filler is made up of the same component; Hyaluronic Acid, however PROFHILO® and dermal fillers work very differently. Dermal fillers do contain other biodegradable synthetic materials, causing them to be more ‘gel-like’. They are injected to enhance and augment specific areas of the face such as the lips, cheeks and jawlines. When carried out well, using the correct product(s) it does not migrate to the surrounding skin. However, as PROFHILO® is made up of 100% hyaluronic acid - a completely natural skin substance - it blends under the skin seamlessly and distributes itself to boost overall complexion, rather than staying put in one area.

Where Can I have PROFHILO®?

Many of us are guilty of only taking care of our faces. While we may have invested in expensive skincare routines and religiously applied SPF to our faces, other features are often neglected. These areas often get more exposure to damaging UV rays from the sun and other environmental elements, and deserve some TLC too.

PROFHILO® does an impressive job of rejuvenating multiple areas of the body, specifically:

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Décolletage
  • Chest
  • Hands
  • Arms
  • Knees
  • Feet

What Does Treatment Involve?

A single course of PROFHILO® involves two treatment sessions four weeks/28 days apart. PROFHILO® is injected just below the surface of the skin and is absorbed within a 2cm radius of its injection site, so to treat the entire face there are only five specific BAP (bio aesthetic point) injection sites on each side, so 10 injections in total.

Best results are only seen after the second treatment, which is when you can expect to see an intense hydration of the skin. Over the next few weeks collagen and elastin production is stimulated, producing a secondary effect of skin tightening. The maximum effect of PROFHILO® is usually seen 2 months after the second treatment. It makes the skin glow, fine lines may disappear and you’ll notice smoother, tighter skin. Courses of two treatments can be repeated every six months as needed to maintain the results.

What’s the Recovery Time?

The downtime following PROFHILO® treatment is minimal and you should be able to return to normal daily activities immediately after your procedure. However, there are a few tips you need to bear in mind. Patients are strongly recommended the following post treatment*;

  • No makeup for 12 hours
  • No physical sports or high intensity workouts for 24 - 48 hours
  • No saunas, steamy baths or hot showers for the 24 - 48 hours
  • No facials, waxing, skin needling, microdermabrasion IPL or laser for 2 weeks
  • Avoid intense sun or UV light exposure for 48 – 72 hours

*Your practitioner should provide you with all the necessary aftercare advice needed

Who is PROFHILO® most suited to?

Levels of the skins building blocks - Collagen, Elastin and Hyaluronic Acid - rapidly reduce from late 20’s/early 30’s for most, resulting in signs of ageing such as fine lines, wrinkles and lacklustre skin. PROFHILO® acts to reverse some of these changes.

There are two distinct categories for PROFHILO® patients. Specifically:

  • Preventative: Younger patients from late 20s and older who are keen to maintain and stimulate the body's natural cell renewal cycles, producing fresher, clearer, glowing skin
  • Restorative: More mature patients who wish to address existing depletion, including lost significant suppleness and firmness, increased laxity, noticeable dullness and creases in the skin

Of course, as with all injectable treatments, PROFHILO® is patient specific, and not all patients will be suitable candidates for treatment. Visual results will vary from person to person. Those with relatively good skin, in their late 20’s will not notice the same results as someone in their 40’s with more deep-set fine lines and wrinkles. However, as discussed above, it’s a fantastic preventative of ageing skin. Furthermore, a more mature skin, with lots of UV and environmental damage may not experience the same results as someone who has protected their skin with medical grade skincare and daily SPF.
